Loikaw
Loikaw is the capital of Kayah State in Myanmar. It is located 360 km South-East of Mandalay and 480 km North-East of Yangon. It is reachable by either airplane or express bus from both Yangon and Mandalay.
A relatively quite town of around 40,000 it’s most famous attraction is the Taung Kwe Pagoda, actually a collection of pagodas perched on top of a large hill overlooking Loikaw. Lovely views and great sunsets.
Other sights include the local markets, a visit to a nearby Pan Pet village to visit the Kayan long necked people and a visit to a nearby elephant camp.
Loikaw is off the beaten track for most tourists but it is a worthwhile place to visit to get a good insight into local life and meet friendly locals away from the major cities.
