Pyin Oo Lwin (previously Maymyo) is situated about 65 km east of Mandalay, a two hour drive up to the Shan plateau. It is the perfect place to go for a one day outing.

During the British colonial era government officers and their families used it as a summer resort due to the cool mountain climate found there. There are many of the colonial houses still there today.

The town is commonly referred to as the City of Flowers. One of the main attractions in Pyin Oo Lwin is the National Kandawgyi Gardens, a lush landscaped area covering 430 acres with a 65 acre lake at it center. The area is dotted with a hugely diverse collection of local and foreign fauna and flora. At the annual flower festival in December each year you will see 5 million plus flowers on display.

Other highlights in Pyin Oo Lwin include the local markets and the Purcell Clock Tower. You can also go for a stagecoach ride around town to see the historic British houses, go for a dip at Pwe Kyauk Water Falls, explore Peik Chin Myaung Cave and visit Pyi Chit Pagoda.

A great place to spend a relaxing day.
