We start the tour with a visit to a woodcraft workshop and marvel at the intricate work done by the skilled workers. You can see the artisans actually making the products right in front of you. Anything from small intricate statues to large carved furniture and household items and lovely puppets.
Next, watch the hard-working men use heavy hammers to pound out the gold leaf pieces from tiny buttons of solid gold at the King Galon Gold Leaf Workshop. From a small 2oz button of gold they can make nearly 3,000 squares of gold leaf, amazing. See the whole process of making the gold leaf squares from beginning to end.
Then go and see the dusty local artisans sculpt slabs of marble into beautiful Buddha statues of all sizes at one of the many marble workshops.
From there go to another handicraft workshop where you will see the bronze workers make beautiful polished Buddha statues that were cast in moulds in their own wood fire furnaces.
Afterwards we can go for a walk around Mandalay’s Jade Market and see the beautiful jade pieces on display and watch the buyers and sellers in action.
At a silk workshop you will be intrigued by how the ladies skilfully handle the large looms to make beautiful and colourful silk and cotton garments. There are even garments you can purchase (no pressure) if you wish to have a lovely souvenir of your trip to Mandalay.
