Mandalay Sights (1 Day Tour)

Let Top Myanmar Tours take you for a full day tour around Mandalay to see some beautiful sights. Sights include local handicraft workshops, the Jade Market, ancient pagodas, Mandalay Hill and the restored Mandalay Royal Palace.

The tour includes lunch at a local restaurant.

To visit a lot of the archaeological sites in Mandalay, including temples, monasteries, pagodas and the Royal Palace you will need to purchase an Archaeological Zone Ticket for 10,000K. It is valid for one week. There is a ticket booth right outside the Royal Palace.

Start tour with a visit to a local gold leaf workshop where they make the little gold leaf squares. The gold leaf has many uses including sticking on to statues, as household decorations, in makeup and even as an ingredient in traditional medicine.

Then see the beautiful gold leaf covered Mahamuni Buddha statue, reputedly around 2,500 years old. Ancient tradition refers to only five true likenesses of the Buddha made during his lifetime, and one of them is the Mahamuni Buddha image in Mandalay, Myanmar.

Visit the nearby marble workshops where they make the marble Buddha statues.

Go for a walk around Mandalay’s Jade Market and see the beautiful jade pieces on display and watch the careful transactions between buyers and sellers. Definately a must see.

Visit and enjoy a walk in and around the beautifuly carved teak structure of Shwe In Bin (Shweinbin) Monastery.

Enjoy a stroll around the grounds of the Mandalay Royal Palace. Just how big are the Royal Palace grounds? The street running along the outside of the 70m wide moat surrounding the royal palace is 2.4km on every side. If you take a walk around the whole perimeter it would be a 9.2km walk. By comparison Angkor Wat in Siem Reap, Cambodia is 1.3km on every side, a perimeter of only 5.2km.

Visit the ancient teak built Shwe Nan Daw Monastery, the last intact building from the original Mandalay Royal Palace to survive the boming and fires of World War Two. It is beautifully carved all over with intricate depictions of Buddhist stories and myths.

Visit Kuthodaw Pagoda and see the worlds largest book inscribed on 729 stone tablets, each one housed in its own small temple.

Finish the tour by visiting Mandalay Hill and taking in the panoramic sunset views from the balconies at the temple on the top of the hill.
