Mandalay to Mingun by Ferry – 1/2 Day Tour

Let Top Myanmar Tours take you on a half day tour exploring the sights of the ancient town of Mingun. Mingun is roughly 10 km upriver from Mandalay and on the opposite side of the river.

Start the day by catching the morning ferry boat in Mandalay for a 40 minute upriver cruise across the Ayeyarwady (Irrawaddy) River to Mingun. You will need to show a copy of your Passport at the ticket office in Mandalay when you get your ferry ticket. Ticket included in tour price.

On arrival at Mingun you will need to get a Mingun Archaeological Zone ticket. Ticket is included in tour price.

From the ticket office we take a leisurely stroll to see the ancient wonders of Mingun.

Please remember that the temples and pagodas in Myanmar are sacred Bhuddist sites and they have a strict dress code. Firstly you will have to remove your shoes and socks to enter them. For your convenience we recommend you wear flip-flops or open sandals that are easy to take off and put back on. Secondly – make sure your knees and shoulders are covered at all times. Something like long shorts and t-shirts are usually fine.

On your walk you will pass some local markets where you can purchase local made clothing and souveniers. One recommended product is the very handy water bottle carrier, you will use it for years. Another, for the ladies, is the local longyi wraparound skirts.

Take a walk around the massive Pahtodawgyi Pagoda. You can even climb the staircase at the side of it which goes nearly up to the top for great views.

See the Mingun Bell and stand inside it. Up until a few years ago it was the largest ringing bell in the world.

Visit, climb and explore the huge white 200 year old Hsinbyume Pagoda. It was built by King Bagyidaw in 1816 in memory of his young wife who passed away in childbirth. Great views from the top looking over the Ayeyarwady (Irrawaddy) River to Mandalay and back down Mingun town towards the Pahtodawgyi Pagoda.

Go and experience the Settawya (Sat Taw Yar) Pagoda with its multiple statue decorated staircase going down to the Ayeyarwady (Irrawaddy) River.

Enjoy a local lunch before you board the ferry for the return trip downriver. The afternoon return ferry leaves Mingun between 12.30 and 1.00 PM. Arrive back in Mandalay 40 minutes later.
